Both my wife and I received calls on our cell phones from some unknown "credit union" saying our ATM cards had expired, and to hit "1" to connect to security. It then asked for the card number, at which point we both figured out it was a scam and hung up.
Other clues - we don't belong to any credit unions, and if we had, we would have listed our home phone number as primary contact.
My caller ID showed 305-477-7799. My wife's was 888-796-2661, which is a sales generating service. Apparently you can lease on of their extensions to do auto-generated sales calls.
I received a call from 305-477-7799 stating that my Wells Fargo ATM card was "Temporaily deactivated", and to press 1 to reactivate my card. Instead, I called Wells Fargo and was told my card status was fine and this might be a "phishing" call. Obviously, this is a scam and folks should be very careful if they receive a call from this number.
Same here. Was told my card was deactivated. I hung up and called the number which rings to a Florida business. The receptionist claimed that their phone lines had been 'tapped' and that at least 50 people had called in this morning inquiring about the nature of the call. It is definitely a scam
Tonight I received a call from 'Johns Hopkins' credit union regarding a Visa debit card. I don't belong to a credit union and never worked for Hopkins, so I hung up and did not 'press 1.'
