The majority of these type calls come from corporations such as the one above that have call locations all around the world and work for multiple types of “partners”, (read clients), who hire them for bill collection, consumer research surveys, credit card offers, online investing, political statements, and a host of other things to get their “partners” information out to the public. This is why you see so many different comments on 800notes that differ on what their individual call was about.
In simplest of terms, these are phones banks.
Thus, depending on your own perspective, they are either criminal scammers or just pesky jerk-offs who keep interrupting your day with their incessant calls.
Your best recourse; don't answer, don't call back, and block number if you can. Anything else and you're just playing right into what they want you to do.

The I.d. name for this number was "marathon" whatever that means..I dont answer any calls I don't recognize..it's unfortunate that nothing can be done about these millions of calls taking space on our phone lines. If the caller is "unavailable" then so am I.
Even after registering all phone lines on the "National Do Not Call List", that only seemed to intensify the calls coming in. Reporting them hasn't done a thing to stop them either. They just use another line. The fact that one is a business line they are calling on doesn't faze them one bit either. I start getting tandem calls. Talk about irritating. It would be wonderful if someone could actually do something about these idiots. Obviously, the Do Not Call List is an advertising list that is used for a sales tool, available to all Spam Phone Banks!
I agree with everything you all have said. I received call a few minutes ago and I do not answer and have blocked them.
Even blocking sometimes doesn't work and just the other day there was a big article in out paper on all of this.
