They called us this morning telling us that our son signed a document for the loan of some school books. They told us that the books were free but if we don't return them in 6 months they were going to charge us $180.00 for them. Of course, they asked for a credit card so they'll have it on file just in case. Me? I think this is just a scam. Which company gives a merchandise that could need payment without a payment form on file first.
This is an educational company that helps your student study for the psat, sat exams. Usually they come to your students classroom and give them a lecture on their products. You get two CD's to study from from 2-6 months and if you like it, you keep it and they deduct the $185. But the student has to want to use it. Kaplan has the same type of program but they are reputable. It's hard understanding all of it until you see the CD's and the results depend on what your child puts into the study of them to increase their PSAT or SAT scores. Since I have not heard of them before they called me last week, I told him that I would speak with my daughter's teacher who allowed him to talk to the class. I will ask the teacher if it is a reputable company and if there are any statistics that show it is a worthwhile program. Kaplan is $400-1000. Good luck all
Just got a call from this number, supposedly from Homestead, Florida. They asked for Samantha's parents and when I told them I didn't have a daughter named Samantha, they apologized and hung up. I would suspect some collection agency who just buys blocks of debts.
Got a call today. The guy said my son has been registered for the PSAT exam and that he will send us free study materials to be returned in two months. But needs a credit card number for file now. After. I said no, he referred me to their website www.satacteducationaltesting.org and said he will guide me through the regn process. I told him I need more time for that and to,d him to call tomorrow. After being persistent for awhile, he agreed. I do not think it is a credit card scam, rather very aggressive marketing bordering on fradulent. Whatever happened to pamphlets and brochures?
