I received a phone call at 1:55 p.m. today, January 12, 2011. The man on the phone said I had won $250,000 and a brand new mercedes. He said the check had been sent to Customs in Chicago and would be sent directly to me as soon as I called this number and told them who I was. I asked him how I won this and he said my name and number were submitted by my phone company into this lottery and that I had been picked for these prizes. (This is illegal for the phone company to do this. It violates privacy laws) He did not say there was any charges or anything. I got a similar call last week and it was the same man with the same very heavy accent. At that call he said I was going to have to pay $50 transfer fee and I told him I didn't have $50 and asked me how much I had. I told him it was one of his business and he told me I was cheap. The same background noises of people and children were in the background of both calls. The first call today came from a 520 prefix because it showed up on my tv just before I answered it but when I got it no one was there, so I hung up and then immdiately this guy called and it said anonymous on the screen. Its a scam and I am not going to fall for it and I am not going to call their other number about this prize. I told this same guy last week not to call back here again, but evidently he didn't pay attention. This time his spiel was a little different and he left me a number to call for further information on his scam. I called the police department and the phone company and neither of them could do anything about this because an actual crime had not been committed yet. I hadn't sent in any money and not gotten services for it. So no crime, so they can't do something about it. But others should beware of this scam. Also it is illegal to win a lottery from a foreign country. So if this money was coming from a foreign country and that was why the check was at Customs then that was illegal. But I took down all the informtion and the phone number which led me to this website. Watch out and don't fall for any of these scams.
