Got a call from this number way TOO early this morning. Vague Caller ID. They hung up before answering machine could kick in. (I had gone a couple weeks w/o any scam calls, then suddenly yesterday, I started getting them--had 5 different numbers yesterday and 1 so far this morning).
"...we have a "$100 'gift card' for you - but first there's the little matter of giving me ALL your personal/financial information..." Don't hang by the neck until you get the "gift card", either !! And, seems like the definition of "gift card" is up for grabs as well. WTF exactly IS a "gift card"? Has ANYONE ever actually received one of these "gift cards"? (doubtful). How does anyone actually redeem, or spend these "gift cards"? I recently spent $300 at L.L.Bean, and was promised a $100 "gift card". ($100 seems to be the magic number) What I got was the promise of a "gift card" in a long e-mail. Seems like I first had to complete some long "customer survey", then go to another web site, etc. etc. In the process of all this B.S., I had to "sign up" for this and that, get the "app" (which means a never-ending stream of ads) with no real "gift card" even in sight. Same thing at CVS (the kings and queens of retail trickery). If I gave them quite a bit of personal information, including e-mail and home addresses, I would "get 20% off of my purchase today". What I gave them was B.S. (I keep "dead" addresses for just such occasions - hey, B.S. goes to B.S.) When I asked the clerk for my "20% discount today" he replied "...we'll e-mail you a 'coupon'". Well, I'm STILL waiting for my "coupon" - 2 years later! And, that's my true stories about so-called "gift cards". As you can see, it certainly appears "gift cards" are a delusion. Obviously, my advice is - run, don't walk, away from any "gift card" "offers".
This number calls and hang up. I called the number back and was told the company was Senior benefits. I ask to have my phone number removed from there list.
