Received an SMS message referencing this phone number in the text (Area Code 314 is for the St. Louis, Missouri area), but also referring to an email address (random letters & numbers before the @ sign), with the site (after the @ sign) referring to a company several states away from St. Louis, MO (spoofing). A search on the company seems to bring up a relatively legitamate company that may not be aware of the fact that these kind of messages are being sent out with reference to their company.
I did not open the message as the subject line, though a bit vague, appeared to be somewhat sexually suggestive. I blocked this phone number and website.
I am considering reporting this phone number and the situation to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC.gov).
I have no idea how they got my phone number, or why they tried to SMS text me, as most strange calls I receive are phone calls. I have not received a strange text message in over a year, and never one as kooky as this ever before.
I did some searches on call reporting sites, and did not find much, except the following:
On the call reporting site:
http://whitepages.dexknows.com
there is a Caution (!) followed by the comment: "Medium Spam Activity Suspected" and the search says that the phone number 314-500-4937 is serviced by Peerless Network VoIP in St. Louis, Missouri.
