They called again today. They are legit!!! They were renewing a trade magazine subscription.
They already had my information and were just verifying if I was still in the business and still interested in receiving the magazine. Definitely not a Phishing attempt.
While the call was still being recorded "for verification purposes", I suggested they change their caller ID to something useful. They would get a better response rate.
I've been getting calls around 5-6 pm from (314)632-6121 for a few weeks now, almost daily. Caller-ID shows "St. Louis, MO", which usually means a St. Louis wireless caller. However, no message is ever left - my answering system message clearly states that if a voice mail is not left, I will neither answer or return the call. A little googling shows that the phone number is associated with the ticket office for "St. Louis Beacon", a local on-line newspaper associated with KWMU, our local NPR affiliate. When I called the number, it was answered by a recorded woman's voice (with an English accent)
asking to state my name and answer some questions.
I hung up and blocked the number. If this is indeed the Beacon/KWMU, I strongly advise that you associate this number
with your name, and provide an announcement.
On the other hand, it could be phishing, spam or telemarketing.
