I received a call from them last night. I answered and was on hold for a while, so I hung up and called them back. This is the conversation I had:
Lady on other end: "Hello?"
Me: "Hello. Who is this?"
Lady:"Alicia."
Me:"What company are you calling from?"
Lady:"Is your number XXXXX and your name XXXX?"
Me:"Yes. What company are you calling from?"
Lady: "Global something-or-other collections. You have a small file placed in our office for XXX dollars."
Me: "Okay, send me something in writing and I will contact you once I receive it."
Lady: "Will you call back or do you want me to call back?"
Me: "No, I would prefer to communicate in writing."
Lady: "Why?"
Me: "Because that is my legal right to. So, at this time, I would prefer to communicate only in writing."
(at this point, so got a little nasty, because she knew I wasn't going to be pushed around or intimidated).
Lady: "We've already sent you a letter."
Me: "If that's the case, then I will respond in writing."
Lady: "Are you trying to avoid not paying your-"
Me hung up phone.
Still not sure exactly who it is. Have not received any letters.
