One day, it's the St. Louis Medical Collection Agency. Other times, the call is about a past due Verizon bill. Once they called a person who didn't even have Verizon service, and tried to convince him that he had a past due Verizon bill.
No matter what, it has to be a scam.
They called me today, and didn't leave a voice mail. The Caller ID said "IMC". I tried, but could not spell either "Verizon" or "St. Louis Medical Collection Agency" with the letters "IMC".
From anywhere in the US, you can do a Google search for company names. So I did a Google search, from somewhere in the US.
Out of all the collection agencies in YP, not one of them was named St. Louis Medical Collection Agency. The name IMC was more interesting. There are more than a dozen companies with those initials. I liked International Mulch Company the best.
In the long run, the best thing to do is not to answer the call, if you suspect anything fishy. But the next time IMC calls, maybe I will answer the call, and interrupt the initial spiel, and tell the caller that I want to order 3.5 cubic yards of mulch, to be delivered to a post office box in Montana, in three days.
