Sounds like those "job search" websites were fronts to gather information for crummy businesses that should not exist, not to help you look for jobs.
Six times a day is not too bad, if you have a landline. A landline should be on an answering machine anyway because you can't answer calls when you are out and about filling out job applications and interviewing, and when home you can use it to screen calls.
It's bad for people who don't have a land line and have to use a cell phone with expensive and limited number of minutes/texts per payment.
Actually, it's pretty easy to "block" those calls. What you do is add the number to your contacts and name the contact "Spam". If you can't make contact groups, then you can just keep adding each new call with a sequential number like "Spam 1", "Spam 2", etc. That way when you see it's a Spam number you can just ignore the call.
Not certain about the reference for a mortgage company. What I got was a call for a donation to stop breast cancer. There are numerous reports of telemarketing scams for charity. Don't get caught up in their likely fraud and/or identity theft, and never give credit information over the telephone on a cold call. I told her never to call again, and she said they would take my number off. Ha ha. I'll be waiting.
