On a very poor connection, a man with a very strong accent calling himself "Nate Thomas with Windows Support Center" said that they had been receiving messages from my computer that indicated I was infected. He walked me through looking at my Event Viewer to confirm this, but when I told him there were no errors listed, he said that the Information entries meant that I was infected, and I hung up on him (after asking his phone number and whether or not he was affiliated with Microsoft, which he claimed to be). DO NOT TALK TO THESE PEOPLE!

A person with a very strong indian accent (and an office sort of background noise) called claiming to be from Windows Technical department about a notification they were receiving about a Windows 7 laptop that was infected via my router and compromising the Windows system, infecting multiple folders and stopping may services. He walked me through opening Event Viewer via command prompt, and had me look through the System folder and tell him if there were errors. I'm computer savvy myself and he was painstakingly slow at explaining things.

Then he told me to go to www.ammyy.com via the run command (windows key + r). I didn't do what he told me to and Googled the website, saw that it was a desktop application sharing download website. I'm like... mmno. I asked him to prove that he was from the Windows Technical Department, and so he had me open command prompt at look at my CLSID, and he read some numbers that matched mine. As far as I know, CLSID proves nothing. I asked him to further prove it, so he gave me a phone number and identified himself as "Nate Thomas" or "Matt Johnson" or something, he was hard to understand. (The phone number is the same as this page, 323-287-5727). He told me to call that to verify and hung up. I didn't call it, I googled it instead, and found several resources saying it's a scam, just as I figured. He called back a couple minutes later, twice. I didn't pick up either time, and he left a message of just an office sort of sound with no talking. The third time he called, I picked up and told him how many people say he's a scam.

At that point, he kind of got mad and said that if I had any other ideas to let him prove it, he'd go along with it. Naturally I don't know how to verify he's from the WTD (Windows technical department), but Microsoft does not make unsolicited phone calls to help you fix your computer. So I told him I'd call him back in the evening, as I had to go to a meeting. We'll see how it goes after this.

I received the same call from "Nate".  Due to a quick search resulting in this website, the telepone call ended abruptly.

The same set up a above posts say. Nate spoke perfect English until I asked him to verify he worked with Microsoft at which point his accent became unintelligible. After that gee became angry and eventually hung up on me. Called back twice but I did not pick up.
