I literally got a text message from the same number today, as I also have a vehicle listed on Craigslist. The area code was out of state, which is a red flag for me. They also sent a link which lead to VinChecked.com. Here's the exact conversation..
Unknown: "Hello is the 2001 Acura Integra still up for sale?"
ME: Yes it is.
Unknown: "I just saw your ad online - I am set and ready to buy it. Do you have any kind of history report ran about its past?"
ME: I do not currently. But you can come look at it tomorrow if you're serious.
Unknown: "Please will you get one of these http://www.tiny.cc/9zae6x and send it in an e-mail to me-- I have to be sure it checks out clean,"
ME: Are you located in California?
Unknown: "
[email protected] is my email address. After I see that, I would like to come over to buy it this week or weekend."
ME: Please answer my question! Plus I'm definitely not going to pay for your history report from some random site, really? If you're real, I can provide you with a full report in person, otherwise we're not doing business.
Unknown: "Sounds good, thanks."
Just the way they talked seemed odd to me, as the grammar, punctuation, and tone were different between each message. And to send me a link in which I have to pay so they can get a report, just screamed scam. I could've not even replied, but I wanted to see where it was going to go. Avoid this number indefinitely.
