Called quite a few times previously. Picked up this morning to try getting them to stop. Woman, with foreign hard to understand accented speech and other telemarketers talking in the background, wanted to sell me car warranty. Told her to take my number off the list. Well, same number and caller ID just called tonight. Man this time (still heavily accented). Gave him an earful.
I do not do any business with anybody I know to have this phone number. The caller ID displays only "Akron OH". Such a generic caller ID display almost certainly guarantees a deceptive caller is on the other end of the connection. I subscribe to a blocking service and this call was intercepted by the block after one ring. This number called my line twice within half an hour today.
If this number calls you, my recommendation is just to let it ring unanswered (wastes more of their time) or allow it to roll over to your voice mail so they can leave a messsge if they are so inclined. Yeah, right, like they'll leave a m.essage!
Middle-eastern woman called my cell and asked for some name I couldn't understand. I asked who she wanted, and the woman asked how many miles I had on my RV (said the model but I couldn't understand what she said). I have no RV or any vehicle they could know about. So I called her bluff and got rid of some of my anger with disgusting insults, then listened to her say she was sorry for bothering me and would take me off their list. Which I know won't happen. I've noticed that most calls in the last six months or so are from people with Middle-Eastern accents and start the same way. They don't identify themselves and ask for some generic name, like Bob or Bill or Jim, as if they are a legit caller looking for someone they actually know. Sometimes I say I'm the guy they want, sometimes I don't. No matter what I say, they launch into their scam. Can someone explain what they get from this type of call? Verifying that my line is active has minimal value. Listening to me tell them lies or call them insulting names has no value. I am convinced this is part of the illegal immigrant war we are facing, and when the fighting war with illegals begins, maybe I will be first on their hit list. But I'm ready for that. Bring them on.
