You know I dont think I got phone calls but GE Money Bank/GE Consumer Finance sent me a letter from El Paso. I never applied for anything yet they sent me a denial of credit letter due to my supposed bad credit. Something fishy is going on with this company.

Wow! .I'm far from being the only one. Yep, this number is appearing on my cell phone up to ten times a day...very early and late. I have a card, but....paid off and they should have my home number which is never called. This is getting very annoying!

Feeling Harassed
Called me at 8:00 Sunday morning on my cell phone. Automated voice said, "This is not a solicitation call, please wait."  I waited, their rep answered with, "Hello."  I said, "Yes?", and they disconnected the call. I am now concerned that it was Belk/Capitol Retail Bank trying to scam me. I have had a new Belk card for about 2 months. I set up online for Belk to autobill my checking for the full balance each month.  The first payment was not processed by them and I was assessed a $25.00 late fee.  I called the number on the back of my card to ask why their billing system failed & was ttold, "You must be mistaken, because Belk does not provide automatic billing for the full balance."  I replied that I had emails from Belk confirming the set-up of this service. They checked, complained that this was a new online service and they had not been informed of it. They removed the late fee, told me that other companies do not bill until the month after the set-up, that you have to pay the current month yourself. She then warned me to mske sure my next payment went through by checking with my bank for a debit -- if my bank shows no debit, I could be charged another late fee and their customer service people are only allowed to remove 1 late fee every 12 month period."  I noticed from my confirmation email that Belk performs their autobilling on the bill due date, not giving their customers the courtesy of time to troubleshoot before charging their late fee if a payment goes wrong.  I checked my bank for a debit on the 2nd month's bill due date, found none, checked my online Belk account, saw a balance of $0, wasn't confident of their billing, called my bank to see if the Belk billing was somewhere in the bsnk's system  but had not been posted online yet so I could see it, and was told that since the bill date was a Saturday, it was possible that the debit wouldn't show in LY online bank account tiil Monday night.  I was advised by my bank to call Belk to verify payment, which I did. Belk confirmed my $0 balance over the phone, so I felt reasonably confident that the account truly had a $0 balance. I received no emails or calls from Belk to the contrary until a full 8 days later, the next Saturday, at. 8:00 am, saying my account was overdue because my "bank had refused the bill saying they could not identify my account number" and I had been charged a late fee of $35 this time. I asked them to check the bank number I had submitted and they did not have access to that information. I explained the events prior, saying I had now tried to pay my bill in good faith twice and did not feel responsible for the late fee for a second time, that I check my account numbers 3 times for accuracy in transactions of this kind, and that I was prepared to pay my bill in full right then, over the phone. The cust serv person obviously sympathized with me, because he called the company for permission to delete the 2nd late fee. He was refused. I paid the bill in full, including the late fee because I didn't want them ruining my credit over $35, received a payment confirmation number, cancelled my card, got an address to send a complaint to, and thought the account had been successfully closed. Now, after this aborted mystery call from this mystery number, I am worried that it was Belk calling and they are going to hit me with another scam. I am writing these events up for a complaint to Belk woth a copy to the appropriate government watchdog agency, and I will run my complaint by my lawyer to make sure it's as concise as possible before sending it. Vendors should not be allowed by law to electronically bill on the bill due date, entrapping their customers into late fees because there is no grace time to correct any billing errors. In my opinion, based on my experiences, I think GE Capitol Retail Bank performs unfair business practices that penalize their customers!
