Just got a call from this number saying that my visa card had been suspended by the state treasury fraud department. Took me to an unlock menu and asked for information. I hung up (without giving them information) and am in the process of calling my visa card company to find out whats going on (most likely a hoax)
Computerized voice said my Visa card had been accessed by an unknown 3rd party and is temporarily shut-off. Asked that I enter my 16 digit card number to unlock the card. What a scam, please do not fall for this!!
Oh, and she said she was calling from the state treasury department against fraud or something like that.
I got the same call--State Dept. and asked for 16 digit number, expiration date and 4-digit PIN. After the first two, I stopped.
Why would the State Dept. be calling about my VISA card? The only reason I thought it might be legit was that I had recent trouble with an online purchase.
Three family members received calls from this number last night. I looked up the number on Intelius. com and found that it originated in Sangius, or Rowley MA. The site claimed that 6 individuals in the residence have access to that number. The message sent to us resembled all the previous reports about State Department, credit checks, etc. For those willing to pay to get additional information, check the Intelius site or others and post or report the info for all to see.
