Showed up as red octopus on caller ID. Caller had Indian accent and said we had a terrible virus on our computer. I assumed it was not legitimate, however I wanted to get a better understanding the game they were trying to play. I let them talk me through looking at the event viewer on the PC. They claimed that every error in the event log was an indication of the infection and that regular virus scanners would not detect the infection. I know that errors in the event log are not uncommon so I knew they were full of crap, and they did not give any specific error that would identify the infection. I finally got tired of it and hung up on them.
They certainly were willing to spend a lot of time and effort without accomplishing anything, and they never even said what they were trying to sell. They kept saying they could fix it at no cost.
This is clearly a scam and it is not even clear what they are after.
I gave them no personal information.
For a couple of weeks calls have been coming from this number, but this link and others like it seem to have no complaint info. The caller ID is simply “New York.” Annoying? You bet.
I got called by this number. They called after 8:00pm last night, a man with an accent said he noticed my computer was receiving malicious code and malware. I called him a liar and hung up on him. What an idiot.

***Warning*** Call is clearly a scam. The Indian accent caller tried to tell me errors in Event Log were a virus. I asked them to send me my IP Address via email since they said they were receiving messages from my computer that it was infected. They said they could not do that--this is a red flag. They also pretended to be associated with/or representing Microsoft which is clearly fraud.
Unfortunately for these hoodlums, I know more about Event Viewer than they do and they boxed themselves into a corner. I told them the next time they called me I would notify the authorities. They said I could go ahead and do that. No legitimate business would respond that way.
