IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
Received call about an IRS Investigation. The Indian voice lady asked if I receive a letter on August 28th from the IRS. I stated no. Then she read my address and stated that I had a warrant out for my arrest since I did not send the papers back. I became flustered and since I am running a fever, I could not understand her and became nervous. Then she started sounding official and by giving me a case # and telling me that I was not to speak because I was being recorded. Gave me a Law from 1928. I became even more confused and started asking more questions leaving her nervous. She than stated that she could not continue with me since I was not allowing her to speak and I stated that I was nervous and needed questions answered, not to become silent. So she said she was not going to talk to me any longer and was going to send an office to arrest me. I said how? In the USA police cannot arrest due to IRS matters??? She hung up on me and I started doing some internet research. Oh My God this is out of hand.....

Indian voice on other side.......got me very nerves said I was under investigation and a warrant was out for my arrest.
"Cheryl" (with an accent from what I am guessing is S or SE Asia) left a message, saying she was with the IRS. Apparently there is a "warrant for my husband and charges were pressed". "If anything goes wrong", he is to call her back at this number.
Please, people, do not fall for this. It is a scam
