My business received an email about a catering request for Tuesday Sept 17th 2013 for a wedding reception from email address: [email protected].  The email was grammatically incorrect with a lot of spelling errors. E-mailer asked to speak with our owner and was too specific as to what he wanted to order (only a salad for 150 people) and it was clear they had not looked at our menu as he was "ordering off the menu".  It was, however, clear they had looked at our website and saw we were military friendly and the e-mailer said his son was stationed at a local military base.  I e-mailed back and requested that someone call me to discuss the order.  Instead of a call I received a text message from a Florida number (386-243-5205) later in the evening.  After a few text messages back and forth I thought we were being scammed.  I attempted to call the number several times and before the phone would ring I was asked to state my name and who I was calling with before it connected the call. I received a text back saying that he was hearing impaired.  I texted back stating I needed to speak with someone via phone.  Later than evening he used RELAY to call me and I spoke  with a women with a heavy foreign accent who "played the part" communicating" between the caller and myself (Relay is a service for the hearing impaired to call me from 480-257-7542 but that number did not check out in google search and when I called it back no one picked up and the message was "we are unable to reach your party please call back".  If it were a legitimate number I believe a service would have picked up and redirected me).  This morning I received another email from him asking me if he could pay by credit card since he was about to have a surgery and then asked if we could add money to his credit card and send via western union.

Tara, I had the same e-mail address from a John Wilson e-mail us (a CT automotive service facility) regarding service to his vehicle that was at an impound lot in Pennsylvania wanting it to be towed up to CT for us to service it. Same grammatically incorrect message with lots of typos etc. In short I have not even gotten as far as you did after finding your post. Seems like a scam to me. Thanks for your detailed posting, and anyone else being e-mailed from this same e-mail address, I believe it is safe to assume it is illegitimate.

Just received the following from [email protected]:

"HELLO THIS IS JOHN WILSON, AM GLAD TO KNOW IF YOU CAN HANDLE AUTO BRAKE,AUTO BODY,AUTO TINT AND AUTO GLASS AND ALSO IF YOU HAVE SOMEONE WHO CAN HANDLE THE TOWING OF CARS FOR ME AND LET ME KNOW THE ONE YOU CAN DO FOR ME AND ALSO YOU DO YOU ACCEPT CREDIT CARD OVER THE PHONE. WAITING FOR YOUR PROMPT RESPONSE.

I previously worked with a fraud department for a major car sale advertiser, and this e-mail has all of the red flags of a scam. Do not even bother answering, usually these scams are conducted outside of the USA, and there is not much local law enforcement can do about it.

I had this very same call at my restaurant. I received the exact same details as Tara did.
This is a scam, disregard the information if you get a call from John Wilson

Hello thanks very much for your respond back to me so i will like you to know that  i wouldn't be able to do the delivery and pick up due to the nature of my illness but have made a booking with a private shipping guy that will be delivery the rugs to your end and pick its up after you have the cleaning done is that understood and also i will like you to know that am okay with the price for the cleaning the rugs and ,I will need a little favor from you cuz in haven't pay the truck driver  that will be coming down to deliver the rugs to you for cleaner and he doesn't have  access to credit cards facilities   and am asking for this favor so due to my disability and i am at the hospital will undergo surgery in 4  days time..that why am asking for the favor and The Carrier Fee is ...$1,400 so i want you to know that i will be giving you my card for you to charge for the total cost of $2,750.23, in which $1,350.23 will be for the down payment for the rugs and the remaining balance you will be helping me to send to the Carrier so they will bring the rugs to your location...So get back to me so i can Authorize you \and provide you with my Card info and the Shipper details so i will like you to get back to me as soon as possible if you can handle the transaction for me and i will like you to get me your shop address so i can forward that to the carrier that will deliver the rugs to you location for cleaner thanks
