My elderly mother was called and they said they were from National Grid and wanted to give her money. Luckily we have schooled her to give no info to anyone over the phone or computer.
ID Caller reads: Framingham Ma 508-848-0572.
Claimed to be in response to EverSource that raised the electric price by 29% (BTW Nstar in MA was sold to EverSource in Texas that then raised the prices quite a bit) so the phone call was basically to lower the electricity price, but that is as fare is we went before I hung up.
One of the clear scam signs is the caller ID >> Town State << which seems to be popular with the scammers.
With all calls of this type - and I just got this one 10 minutes ago from "Eversource," showing as "Framingham MA" on caller ID - when the caller makes his or her pitch about lowering my electric bill, I say eagerly, "That's great! It'll sure help!" Right away the caller wants to confirm my address (electricity is included in my rent, just showing their sloppy "research"). I confirm it and then I'm asked to get my latest electric bill. I tell the caller it'lI just take a minute. I take the cordless phone into the bedroom, put it on the bed, softly walk out, and close the door almost completely. I quietly continue with my activity and at some point enjoy hearing "Hello? Hello?" At some point - it varies - I hear the beep=beep-beep of the hang up. It's GREAT! They robbed me of 30 seconds of my time, I profited by as much as - in this case - 5 minutes of theirs, with the pleasure of hearing the snap of a trap getting the mouse lured by the cheese! LOL! I'm now thinking of contacting the local police bunco squad and suggesting that I tell the callers I've just moved, and give them the address of the local police station.
