A man with a foreign accent, name Michael wanted to give me a scooter.  I said no and hung up.  Lots of noise in background, talking and laughing.

Subject:    LCSO Warns Residents of  Medicare Telephone Scam Involving Approval for Scooter

Loudoun County, VA:  The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents of a potential scam targeting Medicare recipients.  

Recently a Loudoun resident received a phone call from a subject posing as a salesperson from a medical equipment provider. The caller told the resident they had been approved for a scooter paid for by Medicare and then attempted to obtain their Medicare information to include their social security number.    

Loudoun Sheriff’s Investigators have determined the subject on the phone was not an employee of the medical equipment company that he claimed to be working for. The subject used a VoIP number of 571-207-9014 and is believed to have been involved in prior solicitation attempts that have been reported to the company.  

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reminds Loudoun residents to never respond to unsolicited requests for personal information received over the phone – even if the request appears to come from a legitimate institution that you do business with. This includes requests to “confirm, verify or update” your information.  

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office also requests that anyone believed to have had contact with the same subject/call number to contact Investigator C.A. Perinis of the Financial Crimes Section at 703-777-0475.

I keep receiving calls from this number, 2 - 3 times a day, but no one ever responds when I answer.  When I call back the number comes back as disconnected.

This company calls everyday and never leaves a message. It's sad because I only receive very few phone calls and the ones I do receive are always from them. I asked them to stop 3 months ago and they still haven't bothered to do so. We just don't answer the home phone anymore.
