Received a call today and since I did not recognize the number, I didn't answer. They left a scrabble voice mail message.
I decided to check the phone number before returning the call and saw your posts. Thanks for the information.
Caller stated that my email had been comprised and wanted me to go to my computer so they could take control and fix the problem. Told them I wasn't home and they are suppose to call back.
What ever you do do not let them into your computer. They will charge you money for nothing, and will install malware and steal all your personal information.l
Caller said he was from Microsoft and my computer was compromised. Knowing this to be a scam, I said "No thank you" and hung up. He called back and rather rudely asked why I hung up. I told him it was a scam and he said not all calls are scams, blah, blah, blah. He said he would wait while I turned on my computer. I told him if my computer was in trouble, I would hire someone. He threatened loss of data and said good luck with losing all my stuff, etc. I hung up again.
I've been receiving these calls from so-called Microsoft employees from various numbers. Mr. Number just blocked this number, however a couple weeks ago I received the same type call. I played along with the guy who thought I was doing everything he told me to do. At the end of his instructions he asked me what the screen said. I said it said "F you". Only I said the word which I NEVER say. I told him since he was wasting my time, I thought I would do the same to him. These people are plain stupid because at the end of the call (after I told him I was reporting the phone number to the Attorney General's office), he said "thank you and have a nice day".
