Left me a message to respond as the matter is urgent. Not sure what its about, I have debt but my payments are current and nothing is past due or over my limit.
This is CPS out of California. They buy existing debt for pennies on the dollar and then try to scare the crap out of people so they pay up. They have tried to get ahold of me for 2+ years always stating that this is my "last chance to take care of the matter before it moves forward". They usually leave a case number and sometimes the voice mail only says it is CPS and people think it is Child Protective Services. They have multiple complaints against them for inappropriate collection procedures. Send them a cease and desist letter. Then when they violate it, turn them over to the attorney general in your state. Make sure to keep a record of EVERY time they call and from what number, the date and time, etc. If you talk to them AT ALL, it starts the timeframe back over for collections so don't talk to them on the phone.
Just got a call from 571-431-1986 "Case Management Division" (caller ID info). Said press 1 to speak to a case manager regarding an urgent matter. I didn't. Said "otherwise, call 800 (did not catch it all)." I simply hung up the phone and reported it to the TX State Atty General.
Received a message on my answer-phone from a "Case Management Division"571-431-1986 (caller ID), at 11:09am on 11/9/09. The male voice did not identify himself or his company or who he was trying to reach. However, he stated it was urgent I respond to another phone number,760-423-1166. I never respond to calls such as this! However, thought it unusual enough to internet search and found this site. Thought it might help others fight a fraud like this. I have no financial, ethical or legal issues that would cause this type of phonecall action.
My mom recieved a call from a "Thomas Tucker" from this number. He said a "Mrs Strong was handling this case". He also said this was a federaly regulated case. He reported he was from credit protection services. I think I am going to give this one to the FBI.
Answered a phone call from this number in Virginia, "571-431-1986". There was a recording that stated I had a important matter to handle and to call 760-423-1166. There was no other information given. My number is unlisted and i have no debt or outstanding anything, I have no reason for anyone to contact me with this type of message. I have forwarded this information to my friend who is a local sheriff. Not sure what help he can provide, but it can't hurt.
