After answering, kept hearing message to hold and someone would be on the line; didn't trust it. Hung up caller ID in addition to phone number showed "NCC"
I talked to the nice lady who, after asking me if I was "John Doe", asked me to verify my birthdate. When i asked her what this call was in reference to, she kindly asked me to verify my birthdate again. I told her I wasnt going to verify anything until she told me what the call was in reference to. She proceeded to tell me that she had my name, address, birthdate, and last 4 of my SSN. I told her that if she had all that then she shouldnt need me to verify my birthday as obviously she had the right person. I also said that having all that information, as well as my confirmation about who I was, the odds of someone else with the same name as I answering the phone number they have with my name was astronomical and therefore she shouldn't need to verify anything and can tell me what the call was in reference to. She then told me that they enter a name into a search engine and call all the numbers until they find the right person. I told her that it was kind of odd to have all that information but need to search for a phone number and that obviously this couldnt be anything I've actually done (i.e. a real collection agency) because all forms for credit have you list a phone number. I then thanked her and told her to have a nice day.
I had the same experience that Raw BD had. I would not confirm my private info and asked them to tell me what the call was in reference to. The gentleman did not do so and refused to tell me unless I told them my private info (birth date and confirmation of my address). I told him no, but would be happy to discuss this with him once he told me why he was calling, which he refused. He said, "we have dealt with you before" and I asked him when and he refused to tell me that too. We ended politely and I he said he would send me a letter...for what? He didn't say...
