I received a call on 1/12/2015 from a woman indicating she was "officer Christine Johnson". Christine had an accent I couldn't place, but it sounded sort of eastern bloc perhaps, Slovak or gypsy. The caller indicated some kind of tax fraud problem that was being filed with Federal Court. The call seems to have originated in Virginia, so I called back a little after 5pm EST. The call went to an automated voicemail that did not identify the owner or agency, if any. I checked the IRS website and they do report a phone scam. The IRS website confirms my thinking that the IRS would not reach out by phone to initiate such an issue, but rather first mail some documentation in letter form requesting a response. I believe this is some sort of scam and it seems several people have received similar calls in the past couple of days. I suggest this call be ignored, but if repeat calls are made I plan to make a report to the IRS. You can go the IRS.gov site and hit 'report phishing' on the content list - then you'll see an highlighted area "IRS repeats warning about phone scams". Go to that link and it will allow you to make a report.
Received call 1-14-15 from officer Mike Roger or Hoger hard to understand. Heavy Mid East accent. He was from the legal investigation department of IRS and wanted to let us know that a legal ???? Notice regarding tax fraud using our name was going to be brought to the court house. We need to call him as soon as possible. Blah Blah.

How stooooopid can they be?
An individual called requesting money to avoid litigation. They said they are calling from the Internal Revenue Tax Department.It sounded as they were calling from a foreign country due to their thick accent.
