First, there are no 555 exchanges other than phone company numbers like 555-1212. A web search shows this to be a multiple-line directory assistance number in Pennsylvania.
We got a call and could hear a solicitor boiler room in the background but no one was there. I beeped a boat hailer into the mouthpiece and there was no reaction, so I put the phone on speakerphone and put down the receiver. I heard the boiler room for a minute or two, then a man came on and called me by my correct last name.
He said that a chimney sweep "would be in my neighborhood" tomorrow and wanted to clean our chimney for (I think) $39.95 and claimed that we would get discounts on our homeowner's insurance. I told him that we did that last week. He told me that their work would lower our heating bills. I told him that we have a contract to clean our furnace chimney. He claimed that our furnace company did not have a license to go on the roof... that's where I decided that the BS was too thick to even humor and hung up.
SUMMARY: Spoofed number, bogus claims, high pressure == very, very probably a scam.
