I received the same letter and a check for $3980 I won in a supposed "UK mega lottery". The letter came in a Costco envelope. I was suspicious esp when the letter stated "Please do not attempt to use this check until you call this number 1-647-219-2046" Thank you to all of you who posted here, I figured it was a scam. If was legit the company would certainly have been able to get a hold of me and would have been able to cash the check without a problem. I am going to take the check to my bank and see what they say.
I took the check to the bank and it ws actually a legit check. We researched the company and called it. trans international for logistics in wisconsin. When talking with a consultant they state that someone had stolen checks from there and its definitely a scam. They said wells fargo will not cash the check. The funny thing is what are these scammers going to get out of this, really? The check will be returned for closed account/ NSF but thats the end of it. Unless your bank is stupid enough to put your acct number on the back of the check when they endorse it no one can get your information. Its just a stupid scam, basically making someone in a bad spot see light at the end of the tunnel, but then it gets slammed shut finding out this is a joke to someone. [***]!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got a check today for $2,550, which is suppose to be a partial payment of the $22,500 I've won. They sent $2,550 to help me pay the taxes. When I called "Ted" he told me to deposit the check into my account then call him back. After I call he will then tell me how to pay my taxes and where to send the money. After I pay the money for taxes, they will then "release" the balance of my winnings. AND....if I don't do this in a suitable amount of time, the funds will just go to charity. They make it look so real and the letter mentions shopping at Walmart, JCP, etc and that's where they get the names from. I really feel sorry for anyone who falls for these scams. I wish there was some way to catch these thieves.
I got a letter today and a check for $3800 which is supposedly to pay the taxes on a $250,000 win. Yeah right. like I was born yesterday. The phone number on mine was 647-818-4119. I did call and the man on the other end had a foreign accent and when he asked me to hold on for a second, I figured it was some sort of phone hacking and hung up right away.
