Got two calls from "officer Jason Miller" this week from 647-243-8178, saying unless I called back, it would not be good for me. Being an accountant, I have never heard a CRA person ever use that phrase.
CRA Scam. Apparently this is the new phone number for the old CRA scam. Some guy with a French accent telling me he is "officer Jason Miller". Hang on there Jason, let me see if I've got some spare iTunes gift cards kicking around...
Pre-recorded message, partly recorded - trying to say that I or my lawyer have to call back 'or I can only wish you luck'. Sounds like the tax scam, and the number is spoofed (not legit). Trust your own records, rather than strange phone calls! The Canada Revenue Agency has posted a webpage on spotting these Tax Scam; government officials don't telephone and threaten/intimidate people and DON'T ask you to confirm your Identifying Information, nor ask for payment over the phone, nor ask for email or computer information. The problem with these calls is the scammers use technology to route their computer-based calls through different servers in different countries, where our laws may not be enforceable.
If you or your loved ones fall for one of these scams, contact the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre.
Got a voice mail from officer "Jason Miller" at 647-243-8178. The accent seemed to be Jamaican and was threatening that unless I took action the consequences would not be good for me. Could tell that it was a scam. Needless to say I did not call officer Miller back.
