He wanted my credit card, email and home address do that I can pay $1.95 activation fee to get a $100 gift card fron my bank. He said it comes activated. I refused to give credit card info.
Caller wanted me to confirm my first name (she knew it already) then said she is calling from VISA/Mastercard to tell me that because of my preferred customer status they are sending me gift package in the mail that includes a free gas card worth $100. I thanked her and she abruptly hung up without saying anything.
I was a bit suspicious because she didn't say the name of the company I have the credit card with, and said both VISA and Mastercard. I only have one of those. Also, when the real company calls me they don't abruptly hang up and they usually try to sell me on more services. So, I think this was a scammer.
I dialed the number to see if it would answer. A woman answered right away and greeted me by name. This time we talked for a few minutes. Basically they want to send me an information package about some sweepstakes and travel stuff (I forget what) and ten x $10 gas vouchers. In order to receive this package they want to charge me $1.75. Then she said something about $17/month and I can cancel at any time. She couldn't answer which bank gave them my information, and said that is because the bank doesn't tell them who they are for privacy! Right. I politely told her I don't want to pay to receive an advertising package, I don't want the $100 gas voucher, and I don't like telemarketers then hung up.
They call telling you that you're a "preferred" customer of either Visa or Mastercard. Then they want to confirm your address. I said "I don't live there." Then they said... "okay, well I'm going to go..."
A woman caller said that as a preferred VISA/Mastercard customer, I won $100 gas voucher. They will send me gift package that includes gas card $100 but will cost $3.5 shipping fee. I asked what company she works for. She said: saverscity.ca and holidaysavers.ca.
I was a bit suspicious and googled the review of these 2 websites. I found out this is a scammer.
