I was wakened up just after 7am by a caller showing "unknown" on my call display with the number 647-776-8786. I answered the phone. A man asked for someone, a name I've heard occasionally in the past on a wrong number to my phone, but never this early in the morning! I told him he had the wrong number and proceeded to chew him out for calling so early using every curse word out there. He very rudely hung up on me before I was done swearing at him. I waited a few minutes to cool off (didn't work) and then phoned the number back. A woman answered and said "FDR CIBC". I was able to determine from her that they're a collection agency, apparently working on behalf of CIBC. I told her what had happened and she checked my number, said the person they're looking for probably had this number at one time, and said she'd remove it. I said big deal. I'm moving in a couple of days and this number is being disconnected. I then proceeded to chew her out, minus the swearing, for their company phoning so early in the morning. She jabbered on about how they're legally entitled to do that. To a wrong number, I ask? I pointed out if they'd taken a little extra time to do a reverse phone number search they'd see they have a different name to that phone number. Anyway she just kept jabbering on about they're legally entitled to call so I wasn't getting anywhere with her and clearly she was not the man who woke me up so there was no point in cursing her out. My next call was to the customer complaints department at CIBC phone # 1-800-850-3662. The woman I spoke to at CIBC was no help at all other than a bunch of "sorrys". She tried to justify the actions of their contractor by saying well people make mistakes and phone wrong numbers, it happens to me too. I pointed out it shouldn't happen at 7 in the morning when the wrong number person is trying to sleep. Their collection agency should be more careful and ensure they have the right number before waking someone up at an early number. I asked about financial compensation for my inconvenience but she said they don't do that so I told her I'd be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and ended the call. So I hope I have answered anyone's questions and given them remedies should these scam collection agents call you. Bunch of m.f.ers need to be shut down!

No collection agency collects or acts on behalf of the company they bought the debt from, they are calling on behalf of their own interests.
We had issues with this very company before and we contacted CIBC asking if they were acting on their behalf. CIBC confirmed they (FDR) purchased the debt from CIBC and they do not and should not have identified themselves as affiliated with the bank.
My suggestion: block 'em, don't return their calls, don't answer unknown calls, but ultimately, it's up to you should you wish to deal with them.
Same thing!! Took your advice and link and filed a complaint -They have over 103 complaints listed with the BBB in the last year- so obviously there is an issue with the way they conduct themselves. They have been trying Since August of 2014 to collect off of me and they have not complied with any of my requests- like written proof I opened an account with the CIBC - whom I never dealt with before. They are saying my debt occurred in 2003 in a city I haven't lived in since 1999. Good gravy! Hoping the BBB can get them to stop harassing me.
