I am selling my car and this guy is trying to pull off a scam...BEWARE!!!
I CAN PAY YOU $3,200.  I AM A BUSINESS MAN, I BUY CAR'S ALL OVER CANADA AND U.S. AND SHIP THEM OVER SEA'S FOR SALE. MY COMPANY IS LICENCED HERE IN CANADA AND I HAVE BEEN IN THE BUSINESS FOR MORE THAN 15 YEARS NOW.. DOES THE CAR HAVE TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE PROBLEMS? IF "NO", EVERY OTHER LITTLE FAULT I CAN FIX MYSELF. I KNOW BUYING  A CAR, THERE MUST BE ONE OR TWO THINGS I WILL NEED TO FIX  BEFORE SHIPMENT.

BUT I DONT THINK I WILL BE ABLE TO COME TAKE A LOOK AT THE CAR RIGHT NOW, I AM A BIT BUSY THIS PERIOD. BUT I WILL BE ABLE TO SEND YOU THE PAYMENT JUST TO LET YOU KNOW I AM A SERIOUS BUYER.  I WANT TO SEND YOU A CHEQUE FOR THE PAYMENT RIGHT AWAY WITH FEDEX.  AS SOON AS THE CHEQUE CLEARS, YOU WILL INFORM ME  THEN I WILL MAKE OUT  TIME TO COME PICK UP THE CAR. IF YOU ARE FINE WITH THAT PLEASE SEND ME:

(1) THE NAME YOU WANT THE CHEQUE TO BE WRITTEN ON.
(2) THE ADDRESS I SHOULD MAIL IT TO.

THIS IS MY PHONE NUMBER 1-647-890-2053.  I AWAIT YOUR REPLY, THANKS.

Ya, I got the same type of request...What I believe the scam goes like this.
1. Let's say you are selling your car for $5,000.
2. You provide your name and address.
3. This person will send you a cheque payable to you for, let's say $15,000.
4. You type an email back asking about the amount.
5. This person says, "oh I made a mistake on the price, can you just cash the cheque and take you $5,000 and send me the rest.
6. You do as he says.
7. The cheque is acutally an intercepted cheque that was sent in the mail.
8. The cheque has been altered and is actually a company cheqe from a legit company.
9. You cash the cheque in your bank account and send the rest of the money back to this person.
10. You are now under investigation because the fraudulant cheque has been traced back to your bank account.
11. You have no idea where and to whom you have sent the $10,000 dollars to and this person gets off scott free.
12. You end up being investigated by the police for fraud and or theft.

This is a SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!

Common sense?
Well, for starters... the thing that should send up red flags is, if you really are selling your car, that CHECK is spelled "cheque". I could be wrong here folks (its been known to happen), but I was pretty good in my English classes... and I dont recall the stack of paper things you get from your bank that are directly connected to your bank account EVER being spelled "cheque". Unless, of course, its a non-American version of the spelling.

Always check spelling, punctuation and grammar on these emails, theres almost always something wrong with it.
