I tried sending a text message using google/voice (sometimes a convenient way to tell if a number is invalid) and got:
Invalid number.
Not positive what it does with landlines and such, but in my test sending to my office line, it doesn't say "Invalid Number"... so I am guessing this really is a scam telemarketer spoofing caller ID.
