$$ was taken from my account w/o my knowledge or permission. The above # was disconnected when I called today, 8/26/11. listed as Society of Dermatop 650-622-2200 IL on my bank statement.
I never rec'vd a phone call, so this info is being siphoned through some other source.
This number appeared on an unauthorized debit to my checking account. The person who answered identified himself as "Dave", but denied knowledge of "BIRCO LLC", which was the company name associated with that charge. Canceled my debit card as a precaution. Suspect this is a "fishing" operation.
The $30 charge on my Visa statement listed "MDA EAST BAY." I did indeed make an online contribution to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at about the same date, so I'm not considering this as fraud.
My Google search on the phone no. came up with a couple of other company names. The Visa rep I talked to said that "worthy causes" often use third-party companies to manage contributions, so I'm assuming that's what's going on.
I don't like it that Muscular Dystrophy handed my credit card number to unidentified third-party outfits, but I guess that's what you have to expect when you disclose your number. I much prefer to make payments through PayPal, and I will now be more insistent about it.
