I got two phone calls from 718-204-8795 and 435-880-9856 with the same recording about lowering my credit card interest rates. I have done some digging and it is a SCAM. I have also reported it to my bank.
It's the "Heather from Account Services" scammers resurfacing about how they can lower your credit card interest rate. I had a run-in with them a couple of years ago when I got a robo-call from them. The woman I spoke with asked if I had a current credit credit with an outstanding balance, and when I told her I did, she told me they could lower the interest rate on that card and then asked for my credit card number. I wasn't about to give out my credit card number to a business I was unfamiliar with, so I asked the woman for the name of their company and for their phone number so I could call them back, and she immediately hung up on me! When I googled the number that showed up on my Caller ID, I found a long list of web pages with warnings about "Heather from Card Services" and how they were actually scammers who ripped off numerous people! Eventually the FTC got involved and actually got them shut down for a while!
Anyway, I just got another call from them last week from this phone number. I was already aware of their scam and was about to hang up on them, but I was so ticked off that they were still trying to scam people, I decided to get back at them! I listened to their spiel about how they could lower my interest rate and they again asked for my credit card number. This time, I told them, "OK, can you hang on while I get my credit card out?" I then proceeded to put the receiver down on the table and walk away, doing some puttering around (getting a drink of water, going through junk mail, doing some tidying up, etc.). Every 45 seconds or so I'd walk over to the receiver and say, "Hang on, I'm still looking for the card, I'll be right back!" and then go back to puttering around again. Meanwhile, I could hear other people on the phone from whatever boiler room they were calling from talking loudly and yelling and the gentleman who I spoke with kept saying, "Ma'am?" and I'd just walk over to the receiver and yell, "Sorry, I still can't find it, let me keep looking and I'll be right back!" Finally after a good 3-4 minutes, they eventually got sick of waiting for me to find my credit card and I could hear the fast busy signal indicating they hung up!
Then about a minute later, I got a call with my caller ID showing a different number, 314-666-8546 and name "Symmetry Echo" but it was the same scammer calling from the same boiler room! This time, he asked me something like, "Ma'am, if you can't find your card, do you have your credit card statement?" I then answered, "Okay, I should have that, hang on while I get that!"; then I did the same puttering around thing/yelling that I was still looking, etc. and wasted even more of their time, and they once again got tired of waiting and hung up again. Then I got about 3 more calls from that same new number within 15 minutes! This time, I just let my voicemail pick up; I haven't heard from them since.
I figure I wasted about 15-20 minutes of their time, which hopefully prevented them from making 1 extra phone call and possibly ripping someone off! I do plan on contacting the FTC to let them know that these scammers are back in business, and hopefully they'll again be successful in shutting them down again!
