A FOREIGN GUY CALLED TODAY, HEAVY ACCENT. PROBABLY INDIAN.
HE LEFT A MESSAGE TO CALL HIM BACK.
HE SAID HE WAS FROM NCO FINANCIAL AND WAS TRYING TO COLLECT A DEBT.
ARE THESE COMPANIES NOW SENDING EVEN COLLECTION PHONE CALLS OVERSEAS????
This call was not a telemarketing call, it was an actual representative from American Express.
I received this call Saturday morning at exactly 8:30am and the AMEX rep left a voicemail which I was unable to comprehend. I swear, she was talking with marbles in her mouth with a thick Jamaican or West Indies accent. I really didnt understand what she actually said. I played the message over 10 times to decipher what she said....but not successful. I decided to stop replaying the message and actually call the "1-718-280-7639" displayed on my caller-id. I called the number and a recording says, "You've have reached a number which has been disconnected or no longer in service........"
Hmmmm, now thats strange. So now I'm determine to figure if this call was in fact from AMEX. After replaying the message over and over...I finally broke the code.....I was able to figure out the seven digit phone number, and I dailed it with the 800. BAAAMMMM....the number is an AMEX number. I was talking with an AMEX rep, and did confirm a call came from them at 8:30 from the heavily accent speaking women. I expressed why they used a disconnected number to be displayed on the caller-id, they couldn't answer my question.
Caller claimed to be representative of American Express. It was very odd. Did not speak any english. Fraudalent activity going on if you ask me. Do not give them any information.
RECIEVED CALL @ 10:57 AM 5/23/2007 FROM AN UNIDENTIFIED MALE WITH AN ACCENT, WHO CLAMED TO BE CALLING FOR MBNA-VISA CREDIT CARD ABOUT A PAST DUE BALANCE ON A CREDIT CARD BELONGING FOR MY GRANDFATHER. HE STATED THAT THE LAST PAYMENT OF $100.00 WAS MADE IN 2004 AND THE BALANCE WAS $300.00. WITH ACCUMULATED INTEREST THE CURRENT BALANCE IS $700.00 PLUS AND THEY WERE WILLING TO NEGOTIATE A SETTLEMENT. I STATED THAT I DID NOT THINK MY GRANDAD EVER HAD A MBNA CREDIT CARD. HIS RESPONSE WAS THAT THE CARD IT WAS IDENTIFIED BY HIS SOCIAL SECURITY NO. I STATED THAT I HAVE BEEN HANDLING GRANDAD'S FINANCES FOR ABOUT THE LAST FIVE YEARS AND HAVE NEVER SEEN THE CREDIT CARD OR ANY BILLING FROM MBNA. HE ASKED ME WHAT I INTENDED TO DO ABOUT THE BALANCE. I SAID THAT I DID NOT INTEND TO DO ANYTHING BECAUSE I DID NOT BELIEVE IT EXISTS. HE SAID OK THANK YOU AND HUNG UP.
HE HAD CALLED GRANDMOM FIRST AND SHE GAVE HIM MY CELL PHONE NUMBER.
AFTER THE CALL I CHECKED MY CELL PHONE LOG TO RETRIEVE THE NUMBER HE WAS CALLING FROM.

I NEXT CALLED BANK OF AMERICA 1-800-421-2110 (WHO TOOK OVER MBNA SOME TIME AGO) THEY RAN A CHECK OF GRANDAD'S SOCIAL SECURITY NO. AND I WAS TOLD THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF HIM EVER HAVING AN MBNA CREDIT CARD. I GAVE THEM THE PHONE NUMBER OF THE PERSON WHO CALLED ME AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD TURN IT OVER TO THEIR SECURITY DEPARTMENT.
