Ridiculous! I used these guys and got back a fat check I never knew about it was a stock my father bought for me when I was two and now is worth tens of thousands.

* "Answers" posts made several months (or several years) ago, with a statement that cannot be proven.
* Makes a glowing testimonial, in spite of numerous complaints posted both before and after the shill's statement. (Why should somebody search for a number at 800notes, if they were happy with the supposed services?)

No, the state wouldn't bother calling people. However, they DO have a website where you can search for unclaimed funds - and you don't have to pay a fee to get those funds either.
This website - http://www.usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/Government-Unclaimed-Money.shtml tells people where they can find those unclaimed funds!
