This number called our company today at 1121 hours. Caller ID said "New York NY" so I was immediately suspicious because it's almost invariably a scam artist who is allegedly calling from NY NY. When I went through my usual answering spiel there was a long pause which indicated to me that it was an auto-dialer. Then the guy finally picks up the phone and brusquely says, "Hi. This is James. Is [insert owner's name here] available?" You know, because they're best buddies on a first-name basis of course. <typed with sarcasm> I informed him that [name] doesn't work in the office, was there something I can help with? He kind of snorted impatiently into the phone, mumbled something like, "Thanks. Good bye," and disconnected. So, I would guess that it was yet another unsolicited and very much unwanted call about a "business loan" or some other crap. For the heck of it, I blocked my caller information and called the number back. I got a generic recording telling me that the extension (what extension??) I called was on the phone. Legitimate companies tend to identify themselves. Scammers do not.
This number called our business again, this time, today at 1431 hours. Youngish sounding man wanted to speak with the boss (by first name). When I inquired more information, it was like pulling teeth. He mumbled something about being our underwriters. Huh?? And that he had our file on our desk. Riiiiiight. I finally got it out of him that he was calling about business funding. I told him we don't have any loans, aren't looking to get any loans, and told them previously to stop calling. He said he had never called before. I informed him that I keep a record of calls and then told him exactly when we had received a call from their phone number previously. Naturally, he pretended ignorance. It might have been a different person but it doesn't matter. We're not doing business with a cold-calling "company" trying to get us to take a loan from them. We're not brain damaged.
And these persistent pests keep calling and calling and calling. Apparently they're too brain dead to understand that no means no. They tried yet again today at 1115 hours. I saw "New York NY" on the caller ID and immediately knew it was yet another unwanted call. I picked up the phone but said nothing. The call quickly disconnected.
