They claim to be from Microsoft tech support, and always start their message with "for 2 weeks we've received notifications from your computer that there's a bug blah blah blah". Long story short, I've researched them and they call from different numbers - they try and "fix" something on your computer but make you connect to a site (showmycomputer.com)that actually displays your computer to them so they can access it and erase everything and then offer you something to fix it/steal your info. Anyway it's scary. And as soon as you tell them you know they're not legit or you ask any suspicious questions, they hang up on you. They have no moral compass whatsoever. They call me monthly from different numbers.
Received call 5/20/15 from 718-513-1436 with Caller ID as Brooklyn NY. A person with a strong accent said have report your computer has been hacked by a hacker. You are at high risk (at being investigated?) by the FBI and NYPD. Gave an IP address he said of my computer and my first name. Said he was from Microsoft and from the Northern Tech Dept. I said I would call him back and he gave (404) 566-9884. I got a person who said he was with PC help and support in Georgia. He said they help Windows customers. I asked how he would know I had been hacked by hackers and he said he would call me back in five minutes.
Received a call from 718-513-1436. They claimed that they were Microsoft certified technicians and were getting error messages that my computer had downloaded a virus. I've received this type of call before and recognized it as the scam that it is. I strung them out with conversation as long as I could just to waste their time. Of course, they eventually asked me to go to my computer so they could take hold of it. At that point I told them I knew it was a scam and would report them to law enforcement. Needless to say, that ended the call.
I received this call on memorial day may 25, 2015, the caller stated she was calling from microsoft. I told the female that i did not call them and i am not giving out any info. Then i hung up the phone. I then looked up this number on the internet and found out this is a scam
they just called me a few minutes ago today from Memorial Day same thing calling from Microsoft I said "I didn't call Microsoft who are you and where are you calling from" he said "Georgia" i hung up on him and looked up the number and it's obviously New York number registered to a Benjamin Wolfson M.D. I imagine that doctor doesn't know these people hijacked his phone number.
