I was told that i owed $1995 for a payday loan from 2009. i did not take out any such loans but they knew the town i lived in and said it was taken out at Advance America. As soon as I told them i would go to the store to see documentation they hung up. After calling the company in the town i lived in and verifying they did not show any loans in my name that company was able to verify this is a scam.
I just got a phone call from this number and was told that i was going to be sued for 5000 if i did not pay 550.00 today for a payday loan they said i took out in january 2009. I went to my bank and not only did i never receive money from a cash advance the account they claimed the money was put into was not even an open account at the time! SCAM!
I have been getting numerous calls from this number all morning and yesterday they called my job! It is a couple Indian men who pass the phone back n forth to one another. The guy I talked to was "Mike Green", he kept repeating himself over and over and said that I owed a 750 dollar loan from advandce america and that if i didnt pay the full amount I would be taken into court, with a 5000 dollar fine to pay. When I asked what law firm he was with he was unable to respond. I checked my record and never had a loan from this advance america. When I called back the number he gave me a woman just answered that said hello. What law firm answers like that?? My mother is reporting this number to the attorney general.
Its really scary that these people have so much personal information. They had the last 4 of my ssn, my full name, and my bank account number and routing number!
They said I took out a payday loan in 2010 (they could not give me a date) and said I owed $576.00 that I needed to pay immediately or legal action would be taken.
This is the 3rd time I have received phone calls of this nature, each time a different number, but the same scam - heavy indian accent - lots of background noise, very bad phone connections. They always say they are attorneys for a financial law division of a payday loan company - this time it was Cash Advance America. I asked for documentation of this loan and was told it was emailed to me many times and I am obviously ignoring my email. I again asked for WRITTEN documentation of this loan and was told it was already sent. I have never taken a loan of this kind from any payday agency, so I know this is a total scam. I asked for their address and he told me 320 Jay St Brooklyn NY, which is the Kings County courthouse! Thats pretty creative on their part to give a valid address knowing a person will look it up. I told "Jose" (funny...Jose with an Indian accent) that my attorney would be contacting him. He screamed no, that he was an attorney and he wouldnt speak to anyone but me.
I just bought an airhorn..next time they call will be their last.
