Yesterday, I was hammered with calls from solicitors stating there was a problem with my computer. This was one out of seven yesterday. The guy had a heavy accent from India. My caller ID indicated the name: New York.
Caller ID days Radio Shack. Number is 718.933.7027. Heavy Indian (country of India) accented man advising my computer is downloading garbage. Hung up of course, obvious scam. Reverse searched the number and it came back to the Radio Shack store on Nordham Road in the Bronx which is one of the shacks that have been permanently closed with the recent chapter 11 filing. My guess is that it is a scam originating from a security breech on the part of Radio Shack when they sold customer demographics OR a scammer trying to capitalize on now defunct Radio Shack phone numbers and phishes for naïve or unsuspecting victims. I called the number back and it was not working. This has been going on for about 3 weeks.
