Satan. Call him back on his hot line. Oh sorry. Hell cannot make outbound calls. Everything just goes in. Now. Due to caller ID spoofing (faking) your caller could be anyone anywhere in the world. Due to that fact, do not take or call back unknown numbers.
This phone number gets routed to a call center in India. I have talked to them for over 3 hours and learned several things.
This is the number they specifically said I could use to call back on (ask for "Jon Roy" if you want the last scammer I talked to - he seems to be at work during regular scandinavian working hours).
It is a "Microsoft tech support" scam. They claim you have a problem with your computer. They will then ask you to let them remote-control it to fix it for you (usually using LogMeIn, TeamViewer or Supremo). They will then show you some unrelated stuff and pretend it is "proof" that there is a problem with your computer.
At this point it varies a bit what they will attempt, they may ask you to log into your online banking, they may ask you to fill in a form giving away your credit card details (including security code - they then proceed to empty it), they might password-protect your computer (locking you out) and blackmail you to pay steep fee for a new "license" (they used the password 123654789 to lock my computer last time). They might also ask you to transfer money using Western Union or similar if they are desperate. Theoretically they could also steal all the passwords stored in your browser (to take over any paypal, amazon, etc. accounts you have and go on a shopping spree). It seems to depend a bit on what they think you will fall for, how much money they think you have, and the individual scammers you talk to.
Yesterday they tried calling me twelve times. They claimed they had gone out of business and since this was while my software was still to be active, they wanted me to set down in front of my computer to enable them to return my money to me. I told them to just send a check. They say they can't and get upset and hang up. later they call back and go through the same scenario. Another favorite is to use a "no caller ID" which I will not answer.
I have gotten calls several times a day on my home and business phone from this number 720-213-4277. They never leave a message, so I decided to pick up this time to see who was calling. It is a woman with a heavy accent, sounds Pakistani, from "Microsoft Windows" saying that she wants to give me a refund from her company because the are going out of business. She wanted me to log into their website and enter a pass code to get the refund. I refused and told her that if she wanted to send me anything it would have to be by U.S. Mail. She was persistent in saying that she could only work with me by having me log into their website. This company has scammed me in the past and I am not falling for it again. I told her that I had received numerous calls from this number and she insistent this was the first time she has called (despite the fact that I have her on caller ID several times over the past month). I told her that I did not want her to call me again and hung up. This is a total phishing scam.
