Received a call. He said his name was Cory Ray with Omni and we had a tax lien. I contacted the Court House and they had no record of a lien. When I asked Cory for specifics he could not give me anything but a dollar amount that he said the lien was for.
Just got a voicemail from this number. He identified himself as 'Chris Kristofferson from Omni' and referenced a business I had about ten years ago, saying it was a tax matter. This business never made any money and never filed its own tax return. Sure doesn't sound legit to me.
No. He can't. If indeed you were in trouble with the IRS or state:
1) They would have contacted you themselves.
2) It wouldn't have been over the phone. The don't work that way. If the IRS or state revenue office needs to contact you, it will be either by mail or in person, and you can bet that they will contact you before they place a lien on anything. They try to resolve before taking that large of a step.
