One of the companies that does charity calls in Ohio is being investigated by the AG office and the FTC because the last tax year they had tax records show the charity only got between 6 and 8 % of the donations. This was in both the Cleveland and Columbus Ohio news. That group was making calls for law enforcement, fire/ems and vet organizations. The amount they were talking about was around 35 million dollars.
I got a call from this 3 this evening around 5:30pm. The guy asked for John and when I told him he had the wrong
# he said that's ok and preceded to give me his speal that he was working for an org. that was helping injured vets that were coming home from Afghanistan. Something just seemed off as no nmae of his org was given. I then told him I had recently donated $ for wounded warriors, which I had. He just kept on talking over me. This wasn't a robo call, just a rude dude. I couldn't get a word in so I hung up. What concerns me about this is that some kind hearted people will fall for this bs. I can't find any org. with this # so am pretty sure it is a scam.
This is actually a basic artificial intelligence based voice response system. They've gotten pretty clever with newer, smarter, technology that recognizes the conversation and provides answers based on key words, like "hello". If you answer with "good bye", it really confuses such systems. All in all, its just a smarter robo call. Whatever you do, do not EVER say "yes" during these calls.
