Yes exact same scenario over here - I went through PayPals official website and looked up this kind of scam and they suggested I download an app called iconix. It goes through your emails and tells you whether or not an email is officially from PayPal. And surprise, surprise the two from *victor were not.
Well long story short, don't let Nigerians ruin your time selling things online.
If your going to sell things online make sure u send them in invoice with the invoice feature on PayPals website. That way if they are legit they can pay through that form, if their not legit they won't.
Never send out a product until you have the money confirmed in your account. (not held for any reason).
If you are ever in doubt, contact PayPal directly using the number on their website, not one provided from an email.
If you follow those steps you should be pretty well protected.
I have been buying and selling things online for over 5 years and not once have I ever lostoney due to one of these scams.
I received texts in response to item being sold on Craigs list.
1st text described what I posted for sale. ending by saying what is ur offer?
2nd text Good to read from you and i can believe we can continue on this transaction because i don;t like to beat around the bush and am not here for games, I am (2/3) buying this item for my spouse located in Ohio United State but on association and institution drive oversea i will be responsible for shipping and (3/3) handling cost. meanwhile i will offer you $1820USD, let me know if you are ok with my offer. Got same message from 740-233-1554, I was selling an item for $100 on craigslist. They offered me $300, I said that was too much money for the item so they offered me $500. That's when I knew it was either some kid messing with me or a scam. I hope the police catches at least one of these scamers and makes an example out of them. Besides no one says "$300 USD" anymore unless you are doing business in another country.
