The same kind of call was coming in from a wisconson #, and when I got someone on the line, I asked her to identify herself, and what company she works for. She told me she works for Windows, and wanted to talk to me about the computer running the windows operating system. Again I asked which one, as I don't have a computer! When I asked for the full name and address of the company, she sounded confused, and again said that she wanted to talk to me about the computer running the windows operating system, and if I could turn my computer on. When I asked again for the mailing address of the company, she hung up. Today, the caller asked for the same thing, and when I asked for the company name and mailing address, he said that he was calling from Montreal Canada, but gave the # 740 628 9013, which is an Ohio #. He quoted the company name as Wintek support, told me that I should go to their website for the mailing address, but he never gave me an address. When I asked him what my first name is, he told me he was only given a phone #, and when I told him that I had never given any information to Microsoft, he told me I could get off the line then, and hung up. I called back the #, and still the person who answered, said that they were in montreal, wouldn't give a company name this time, just said that there were reports from a computer at this IP address and my phone # is attatched to it. I told him that I think it's a total scam, and that any more calls will be reported to the police.
I received a call from 1-510-943-3040, but he gave me the 740-628-9013 number to call back if I was willing to go forward. When I asked him to tell me what to do, so I could write it down and I would do it when my son came home, he said okay mam, and hung up on me.
I got the same call today, I did a search for Wintek in Montreal, but could not find them. The 510 area code is from California.
I was told my computer was sending out error messages and downloading viruses. When you report an error, it goes to Microsoft, not Wintek.
I asked for a supervisor. I got a lady who told me she needed my husband's info to confirm that these error messages were coming from my computer.
I told her to phone back later. I then phoned my local police and the RCMP (The Royal Canadian Mounted Police deal with phone and internet frauds in Canada). The RCMP told me this is a major scam and these people are trying to collect information to access online banking accounts. They asked me to send out email warnings to everyone on my email list and to let them know about the scam.
I got a phone call from 740-628-9013 in May 2011. The man told me he was from Microsoft and that I had error messages on my computer and I needed to get a new operating system. He told me to turn
on my computer. I was in a hurry to go out so he said he would phone back later. Then I got another
phone call from the same number weeks later. I again told him I was in a hurry to leave. He said mam
I was just in a family emergency . He got me vulnerable and I turned on my computer. They get you to
go in and then they go into your computer so you can see them.. I then tried to verify their information
and they say you can call back and they give you a ref#. They even say they will get a supervisor
to call you back to verify this. I woke my husband up as well to see the computer but he never
spoke to them.. They got me to put in my husbands credit card#. I was worried after that so I
told my family but it was weeks before anyone helped me clean out my cookies and personal info
in the computer. The telephone# 740-628-9013 is a landline likely in ohio.I called Telus communications and they said the only thing they could do is look at my computer but they did
give me some information that I needed to know to prevent this again. I had to phone the credit card company and get my card cancelled and get a new one issued with a different number. I was vulnerable at the time they called and was worried as they said they could shut my down and I
hadnt taken precautions to get a hard drive and save my pictures and important info on my computer. I told all my friends about this.
