Caller ID says "SSI". They leave a one word message, "hello?". The voice has an American accent.
I call back after hours (using *67 to block my number). I hear the following, "Thank you for calling SSI. If you recently missed a call from us, we tried to contact you to participate in a survey. We are not selling anything or asking for donations. We appreciate your participation in our research and we value your opinion. However, if you do not wish to participate in future surveys, we understand and respect your decision. You may choose to opt out by emailing us at
[email protected]. Please, remember to include the telephone number you'd like us to add to our no contact list in the body of your email. Thank you and have a nice day."
Of course, by emailing them, you give them your email address.
I have seen phishing schemes in the quise of a survey. Sometimes the credit card reduction scams identify themselves as surveys.
I checked online. SSI has a website https://www.surveysampling.com/. Some of the phrasing in the message mimics the website. This appears to be more than the typical sham website that I have seen before.
Probably a legit survey assuming the caller is not spoofing SSI.
