Received Call several minutes ago from this number on my Unlisted Number. Check 800notes and saw your article and did not answer. They did not leave voice message.
I've received a couple of such notices in the mail about 'my warranty' on a car I haven't owned for many years. Crazy...I also never answer a call that is not identified so did not pick up but checked this site.
Matt...too funny. I needed a good laugh this morning and you made me laugh for about 15 minutes. They've called me 5 or 6 times in the last 2 days but I'm not answering either.
Very good point Jane. That is exactly what they do. As long as they have on record that you said "YES" they charge your phone. Best not to answer any call you don't recognize these days... too many of these scammers for the FTC to deal with.
Oh, come on, is that nonsense still going around? The "Say Yes" scam is an unsubstantiated rumor with no documented proof of anyone actually being harmed by simply saying the word "Yes."
Unfortunately, a number of state AGs, AARP, the BBB as well as a lot of local news channels take the "better to be safe" than sorry line in their communications on this, so I don't see it disappearing from peoples radar.
Urban legend it may be, but due to the number of groups urging caution/prudence, don't have an attitude when people bring it up. Even sites like Snopes say it's "unproven".
Sorry to see it crop up multiple times daily myself, and if I do get such a call at work I just say "I can't confirm or deny that, who is calling?" (I hate answering office phones).
As I don't answer any personal call that is not on my contact list, I've not had the issue personally.
