I received a call from the "National Police and Troopers Association." The guy asked of I would be comfortable with a $15 donation. I said that I was fine with that amount, so he wanted to know my address and he got a lady on the line to "verify contact info" so that they could send out a sponsor card in the mail to me. I said that I wasn't comfortable with giving out my info over the phone. I asked for a number I could call them back at, at a later time. The lady said, "Our website is IUPA.org, and hung up immediately. I was literally accessing https://iupa.org/donate/ as she hung up; and I clicked on the police and troopers icon and was routed to http://nptadonations.org/contact.html. I called the number, and guess what-- they are closed since last week and all the way through until after New Year's... (and today is 12/29, btw) Surprise, surprise... By the way, they are based out of Florida, so isn't that fishy that this phone number that called me is a Channelview, TX number? Don't trust ANY calls that ask you to verify your own personal info. Just don't. I will call next week to NPTA in FL and ask them if they are aware of anyone calling and trying to gather donations in their name over the holidays.... I'm curious to know their response.
