I called the number back and got a recording that was weirs. It is a man saying that this call is a scam and to call the police. When they call it is a recording saying it is a credit card Company. Then when I called I got that weird recording. I did report it three times to the DNC list.
There's no "legal eagle"; these dirtbags use spoofed numbers that either can't be traced, or can be traced back to legitimate businesses or people who have no idea their number is being highjacked like this. There is nothing we can do about it. Most of the calls don't even originate in the US, despite what your caller ID says.
Zapped ! by PhoneTray Free. Its a free software that runs on your computer and answers your home phone for you. All you need to have is Caller ID and a voice modem card in your computer... a 20 dollar item.
Anyway, I downloaded a few dozen genuine phone company operator interupted meassages and anyone of them I choose gets played to the hearing of the caller while the computer is on. One messages is this highly annoying beeping noise while others are such as " The number you are calling is not in service " along with those fimiliar 3 audible beeps which tells calling computers they've dialed a non-working number.
After blocking 888,877,866,and 855 about 90% of bogus calls have ceased to ring more than once per attempt to reach me or my answering machine.
You can block the whole country if you wanted to and allow only your friends, relatives, doctors etc. to get past freely. You're beating your heads against the wall for nothing becoming annoyed and enraged by these relentless telemarketing / scammer calls when thertes a free program out there to smash them.
