I also received the same call as Shelly Harris and was told the same thing. I really don't know what they get out of it since they really didn't ask for vital information from me or asked for any money, as some scams do. The devil is sure working over time.
Claimed to be a law firm in charged with delivering a second place prize of $500,000 from the Consumers Clearing House sweepstakes. (Supposedly the international arm of the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes.) They knew my name and address. They instructed me to not provide any specific information like account numbers or social security number. The only questions they did ask me was the approximate range of money in my checking account and the approximate credit limit on my charge card. Nothing specific like where I bank or the even which credit card I have? This apparently was some type of a scam but I can't see the purpose unless it is some type of sales qualifying call. And what a lot of trouble they went to to learn almost nothing!
