Answered call, long pause - I hung up. I called back with my number blocked and got a recording: "Your call is very important to us - please stay on the line." I had my phone on speaker (and muted) about 20 seconds later some guy picks up with massive boiler room sounds in the background and asks "hello" repeatedly. I didn't reply and he hung up after about 20 more seconds.
This number called our business today at 1710 hours, after we were closed. Caller ID said, "New York" so I knew it was the sixth scam artist/spammer call of the day. Literally the sixth. I let the recorder pick it up. Unsurprisingly, they didn't leave a message. But I'm sure they'll try, try again, because that's what scam artists and spammers do. And, surprise, surprise, it's a VoIP number. I wish VoIP had never been invented because it's the favorite tool of criminals worldwide.
I answer and there's silence for a moment, then as I repeat the business he just called he talks over me and asks for a name. I tell them I can take a message but they demand to know if he comes here or not. I said he is on jobs but does come here. The guy then said "Alright then" and hung up on me. After quite a bit of research, doesn't look like this number is legit. It isn't a fake number as you can call it back.
I called it back and got someone to answer named William. I asked for the name of the company he works for and he said Squeak Access Capital. When I said there seems to be no business of that name he explained they called because my business was selected for an unsecured business loan. That he would help me to get my money. I said I didn't need any and hung up. I have now blocked their number. I have never filed for any loans, never signed up for anything to see if I qualify for money. So these are cold callers and I definitely don't trust this.
